Description
About Birch Wood
Yellow Birch is obtained from a deciduous tree which is native to Northeastern North America and has a 65-100 ft (20-30 m) height and a 2-3 ft (.6-1.0 m) trunk diameter. The wood is moderately heavy and hard with a Janka score of 1,260 lbf and an average dried weight of 690 kg/m3. It is most commonly used for veneer and plywood. Other uses include paneling, doors, furniture, boxes, paper, turned objects, crates, and interior trim.
Yellow Birch has a light reddish brown heartwood with occasional figured grain patterns such as shallow curls. The grain is straight or sometimes wavy and the texture is fine and even. Birch is a non-durable hardwood and cannot resist moisture and insects at all. It is generally easy to work with and turns, glues, and finishes well. The cost depends on the availability, but it’s generally considered an economical hardwood.
