Niangon, also commonly known as ogoue (Ivory Coast, Gabon), wishmor (Liberia), nyankom (Ghana), is a hardwood sourced from the rainforests of Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana and Ivory Coast and also found in some areas of Gabon and Cameroon. It is a very hard timber with oak-like density but only moderately durable to moisture and insect attack.
The wood has reddish brown or pale red color with heartwood and sapwood not easily distinguishable. It has a medium, coarse texture, with wavy and interlocked grains. Niangon timber is rather easy to work with and is widely used in woodworking applications such as interior and joinery.
